Who carries out the MOT?

The DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) oversees the test, and MOTs must be performed by a certified and authorized "Nominated Tester" (NT).

Where can you schedule an MOT for your car?

When it gets to scheduling an MOT Northampton, you have a variety of options.

These include: A courtesy vehicle might also be provided. The most expensive costs are frequently labor rates and manufacturer-based services, but your repair bill won't always be the highest.

• Fast fit: Name-brand chains like Halfords, Kwik Fit, or National are known for being the best option for urgent repairs like batteries or exhausts. The majority of them can also service and fix your car. When it comes to repairs, they are typically less expensive than a main dealer, but still on the pricey side.

• Independent: While some independent garages specialize in a particular brand of automobile, even those that don't typically have the lowest labor costs. While some are brilliant, others aren't even close, and they can still be pricey. Some locations only provide MOTs, no repairs.

Why is an MOT required for my car?

Your car's roadworthiness is confirmed by MOT tests.

Additionally, you won't be able to renegotiate your road tax until it is finished, and your auto insurance will almost certainly be void, putting you at risk of receiving another six to eight demerit points and rendering any claims invalid.

Remember, passing the test doesn't just require that you meet the minimum requirements. Your vehicle must be safe to drive, so you should try to have any problems fixed.

When is an MOT necessary?

Once they reach three years old, standard cars need an MOT every 12 months after that. Before it expires, you must renew your MOT, and the soonest you can do that is one month beforehand.

How can you tell when your car needs to be inspected?

On the UK Gov website, you can look up a vehicle's MOT history even if you don't have the MOT certificate.

You'll need the car's license plate to do this. You will also need the 11-digit number from the car's logbook if you want to know the test location.

Exceptions

Historic vehicles that are more than 40 years old, measured from the date of their initial registration, are an exception. As long as they haven't undergone major changes in the last 30 years, they won't require an MOT.

You must declare that your vehicle satisfies the requirements for not requiring an MOT when you tax it, as well as, obviously, make sure that it continues to be in drivable condition.

What is included in an MOT test?

Among many other things, a standard MOT examines the brakes, lights, fuel system, mirrors, electrical equipment, and exhaust system.

Daytime running lights, front fog lights, and visible smoke from vehicles equipped with a diesel particulate filter are now also examined as part of MOTs as of May 2018. (DPF).

The clutch, engine, or gearbox are not tested during an MOT.

What should I expect to pay for an MOT test?

The government currently caps the cost of MOT tests at £54.85 (VAT excluded). They typically charge this if you pull into a garage off the street.

MOT deals might have additional fees.

If you look around, you'll find a lot of independent mechanic shops offering specials like £25 MOT tests, some of which even include pickup and delivery.

This offer seems too good to pass up at first glance: less money out of pocket, and comfortable for you. You must, however, exercise some caution. Maybe go for Car Service Northampton.
